1– First Miracle in Ajmer Sharif with the Camel Keepers
When Khwaja Saheb arrived in Ajmer along with his followers and wanted to camp under a bunch of shady trees outside the city wall near Anderkot, Raja Prithviraj’s camel-keepers arrogantly objected to his stay there. They insisted that the place was used as the stabling ground for the Raja’s camels and that the strangers must move away to some other place. And therefore we can say Khwaja Saheb had the first taste of racial prejudice in Ajmer. He, however gracefully moved away to another site near the Anasagar Lake. But when the Raja’s camels did not get up next morning in spite of all efforts to make them move, the trouble was brought to the notice of Raja Prithviraj. He was much perturbed and is reported to have advised his men to approach Khwaja Saheb whom they had turned out from that place and seek the remedy by begging his pardon. When the camel-keepers did so, the Khwaja Saheb said: “Go, the camels would get up.” On their return, they were simply surprised to find the camels standing.
2– Anasagar in Mashkiza
Once in Ajmer, the soldiers of Raja Prithviraj chauhan in their anger and resentment refused to let his followers have water from the Anasagar Lake. Upon this the Khwaja Saheb asked a follower to fetch some water in a Mashkiza (a small bag for carrying water) from the lake. As he filled the Mashkiza, the water of the whole Anasagar Lake mysteriously disappeared into it miraculously. This miracle caused an unprecedented awe and amazement in the city. The Khwaja then decided to go to the anasagar lake temple and asked the name of the idol. Everyone told him it was called sawi deva. The Khwaja asked whether the idol had talked to them. On receiving a negative reply he made the idol recite kalimaa and turned it into a human being, naming it sa’di. This caused quite a sensation in the town.
3– Made Corpse-Alive
Once the ruler of Ajmer hanged an innocent person and sent a message to his mother to come and collect the body of her son. But his mother instead of going there went weeping to the Noble Shelter of the helpless, Sarkaar Gharib Nawaz and requested, “Ah! My support has been snatched away, my house has been ruined, Ya Gharib Nawaz I had only one son who has been hanged by the cruel ruler for no guilt.” After hearing this, He became wrathful and stood up and said, take me to your son’s body, hence He along with her came to the dead body and pointed towards it and said, “O dead person! If the ruler has hanged you unjustly then by the order of Allah stand up”. Then there was some movement in the body and dead person became alive and stood up. Dear Islamic Brethren! Let us hope that Satan does not give the evil suggestion that to give life and death is only the work of Allah, how can any person do this? Then, the answer to this is that no doubt Allah is the only one who can do this but His omnipotence give whatever rights to whomever He wants. Look giving life to the non-living is the work of Allah but by the rights given by Allah Hazrate Sayyed-e-na Isa can also do this.
4– The Blind Acquired Vision
It is said that once Aurangzeb Alamgir went to the glorious Shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz(R.A). Within the boundary a blind beggar was crying out, Ya Khwaja Gharib Nawaz! Restore my sight. He asked this beggar, Baba! How long has it been since asking for the vision? He said that it has been ages but my wish is unfulfilled. He said that I shall return in a short time after paying Homage to the Holy Shrine, if your eyes gain vision very well, otherwise I will have you killed. After saying this King called for the guards to keep an eye on the beggar, and King went inside to pay his respect. On the other hand, the beggar started lamenting and kept requesting while weeping, “Ya Khwaja! First the deal was of eyes only but now it involves life, if you do not show mercy I will be killed.” When the King returned after paying his respect, His eyes had acquired the vision. The King smiled and said that until now you were asking without devoting heart and concentration, and now because of fear of life you asked from your heart, hence your prayer was fulfilled.
5– Milk From an Immature Cow
Once Khawaja Moinuddin Chishty was sitting on the bank of the Anasagar Lake at Ajmer. A shepherd-boy was passing before him with a herd of young cows who had not yet acquired their maturity. The Khawaja Sahib asked the boy for some milk from his herd. The boy took it to be a joke and said, “Baba they are all young calf of immature age; they do not yield any milk at this age.” The Khawaja Sahib smiled and, pointing towards a young cow, said, “I would like to drink the milk of that cow, go and milk her.” The boy obeyed rather hesitatingly. Then, when he went to milk this particular cow, he was simply surprised to find her teats fully developed and over-flowing with milk. The boy filled several receptacles with milk which 40 persons drank to their full satisfaction. He was highly impressed by this miracle that he became great devotee of Khawaja Sahib.
6– A Prediction
One day, ‘mureed’ (disciple) of Khawaja Sahib came to him and complained, “Sir, the governor of the city has made my life most miserable by intolerable harassment so much so that today he has order my banishment from the city.” The Khawaja Sahib replied, “But where is he now, he has already been punished by God?” When the man returned to his home, he heard the news of the governor’s sudden death due to a fall from his horse while hunting.
7– The Sight of the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (RA)
One day the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (RA) was giving a lecture. The audience noticed that whenever he glanced towards his right, he stood up for a while and then started his lecture again. This happened many times. After the lecture, some devotee asked him about this, and he replied by saying that that the tomb of his Pir-O-Murshid was on that side, and whenever he looked that side the tomb appeared before his eyes, therefore he stood up to pay his respects.
8– Few Other Miracles
Once a man appeared before Hazrat Khawaja Sahib and pretended that he was eager to pay his homage to the great saint on that particular day. The Khawaja Sahib replied “Here I am, but first fulfil your promise that brings you here”. The man began to tremble with the idea that his secret was out before he could act and, admitting his guilt, he at once offered his profound apologies. As a matter of fact, this man was an aide some of the enemies of Hazrat Khawaja and had come with the precise intention of killing the holy saint, a fact which the great saint came to know by his intuitive powers. The man asked for forgiveness from the saint who forgave him generously. The men then embraced Islam and became one of the devoted `mureeds’ of Khawaja Moinuddin for his entire life.
According to Hazrat qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki(R.A), he never noticed Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti(R.A) become angry with others as long he stayed with him. Once I, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti(R.A) and Shaikh Ali we were going out, suddenly strangers started abusing Shaikh Ali. Khwaja Sahab asked the reason for his misbehavior; he replied that Shaikh Ali is debtor for long time and not repaying the amount. Khawja Sahab said to leave him, he will repay his amount later. But the man didn’t agree, and then Khwaja Sahab spread His shawl on the ground and asked the man to take his dues but not more than the limit. In spite of Khwaja Sahab word the man took excess amount from the shawl, as soon as he did it his hand dried up. Then he started crying of pain and asked for forgiveness. Khwaja Sahab forgave him and his hand returned to normal state. Immediately the man became disciple of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti(R.A).
Once Khwaja Sahab was passing from jungle, some atheist dacoits came in His way and started snatching all the belonging of the travellers, if they noticed Muslims they killed them as well. But when they faced Khwaja Sahab, a miracle (mojizah) took place. All the dacoits who were busy in looting & killing other people, they all started trembling with fear. All the dacoits fell on the feet of Khwaja Sahab and started saying “we all yours slave, be kind with us”. Khwaja Sahab gracefully welcomed all of them to accept Islam.
It was said that during the period when Khwaja Sahab stayed in Ajmer, all the people who went for Haj and when they returned back they started saying that they had seen Khwaja Sahab going around the Khana-e-Kaaba. But the fact was Khwaja Sahab never went for Haj after His stay in Ajmer.
It is said that though the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) lived a very austere life and his daily food was frugal (he ate dry bread soaked in water), his cook used to prepare large quantities of food to distribute among people of Ajmer. Every morning, the cook would present himself before his master for daily expenses and the Great Saint would lift a corner of his musalla (prayer carpet) and asked the cook to take away only the required amount of money for that particular day’s provisions and no more.
13– Magical Attacks on the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A)
The mother of Raja Prithvi Raj, the ruler of India at that time, predicted that a Muslim Dervesh would one day arrive in his kingdom. She warned her son that if he mistreated that Muslim Dervesh, his kingdom would not survive. Twelve years after the prediction was made, Prithvi Raj was informed that a Muslim Dervesh had indeed arrived in his kingdom as per his Mother’s prophecy.
In spite all of his efforts, plans and tortures perpetrated on Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A). Raja Prithvi Raj was unable to control the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) or bring him under his control against the supreme divine will. He could not succeed in arresting or killing the Great Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (R.A). Even after such bad behavior on Raja Prithvi Raj’s part, the Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) several times invited him directly and indirectly to embrace Islam, which he always chose to decline.
Prithvi Raj discusses with the temple priests and his trusted counselors – Ajai Pal and Shadi Dev. The Raja told his most worthy magicians to remove and kill this Muslim Faqir along with his followers. The Raja also repeated the prophetic words of his mother about the decline of his kingdom. On hearing this Guru Ajai Pal assured the Raja that he should not worry at all, and that the Faqir was only a fake. He would turn him out of Ajmer.
The next day Ajai Pal and a group of disciples arrived at the spot. Ajai Pal, the Guru of the several chelas as well as Raja Prithvi Raj Chowhan, started the attack on Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) who was unarmed. The Great Saint was busy in meditation and contemplation. When Hazrat Khwaja’s Baba’s (R.A) disciples informed him of the situation, he got ready to repulse their attacks. He drew a circle on the ground around him and his followers for protection against Ajai Pal’s magical attacks.
In the first attempt Ajai Pal launched a number of Chakras into the air through a whirlwind. The purpose of these chakras was that they cut everything it touched or came across into pieces. But these did not harm either the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) or his followers. These chakras, whirling violently in the air went back to Ajai Pal and his chelas. Thus Ajai Pal’s first attempt failed. Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (R.A) instructed his followers that nobody should go out of that circle around them. Whatever would come would fall outside of the marked circle.
After this failure, Ajai Pal turned angry and he attacked the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s (R.A) group with a large number of horrible boas, venomous snakes, scorpions which were highly poisonous. But as soon as they proceeded near the Great Saint’s protective circle, they were all killed. This dreadful attack also failed and Ajai Pal got even more furious because his second attack was repulsed by the Almighty’s humble servant.
At last Ajai Pal and his chelas made the last attack by raising a cloudy storm cyclone, with fire, water and stones. All these ran towards the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) causing an intolerable noise. Even this had no effect on the Holy Saint and his companions. Instead it turned back to wreak havoc among Ajai Pal’s followers.
These failed attacks on the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A and his followers were being watched carefully by the public and made them think carefully as to which side possesses Allah’s blessings. Ajai Pal and the Raja were faced with a seemingly hopeless and difficult situation. The frustrated Raja threatened Ajai Pal with dire consequences if he was not successful to save the honor and religion of the kingdom.
Ajai Pal made the last and final attempt to recover his prestige and honor. Ajai Pal brought out a mirgacha, sat on it and flew into the sky. In a few moments he disappeared in the air. Up till now, every feat was judged patiently by the followers of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A). One of them, not being able to tolerate these types of feats of Ajai Pal, approached the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s (R.A) attention to the problem. He urged him to intervene and do something against those horrible feats and the Great Saint smiled and ordered his Nalain (wooden Sandals which Muslim faqirs wear like chappals) to go up in the air and bring Ajai Pal down to the ground.
As Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) ordered his nalain, both of them went into the air flying and instantaneously brought the flying magician down to the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s (R.A) feet by continuously striking Ajai Pal’s head. Ajai Pal was surprisingly shocked to see the great power of the Holy Saint’s sandals. He totally surrendered himself to the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) after losing his final attack.
Ajai Pal lay at the mercy of the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A). The Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) then asked him to embrace Islam and accepted his apology. Ajai Pal immediately embraced Islam and became a devoted disciple. The Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (R.A) named him Abdullah Bayabani.
